Travels

The flights when on more or less without a hitch. We got to the Atlanta airport at 10:20 for our 1:20 flights, and flew through security. This put us in the awkward position of being at our gate by 11:00 and one of us having to ask the question "is it too early for a preflight beer?" Luckily, Joe manned up and asked that question, and I told him it was way too early and he needs to get a hold of himself.....wait, that doesn't sound like me. A couple beers later, we were on our way to Dullus International.

Now I have never been to Dullus International before, and for those of you that haven't been, the people movers are something else. They basically look like one of the bad guys from one of the star wars movies: http://gadgets.boingboing.net/gimages/legoat-at.jpg. They use their hydrolics to raise themselves up, load you on, lower you down, and then very slowly weave their way through oncoming airplane traffic across the tarmac. One of the more inefficient ways to people move.....apparently it was setup to mirror Congress.....slam

While in Dullus, we visited the duty free shop. Joe and I walk out thinking we are the smartest guys in the room as we have bought many the bourbon for very deep discounts. While checking in at the airport for our flight to Copenhagen, Joe tells the attendant he would like an exit row. He then adds that we would like to sit together to which the attendant looks at me and says "we usually save those rows for umm......(puts hand above his head" yeah, i get it, tall people. a simple no would have sufficed. He actually ends up giving us the bulkhead exit row. It was amazing. Between that and the Scandinavian looking flight attendant showing me the trick of putting my feet up on her seat across from us when she wasn't using it, I could practically lie horizontally. Oh yeah, then when going through security in Copenhagen, they confiscated our booze. They claim that if you don't buy it in within the EU, you can't bring it into Denmark. I look over and see about 8 handles of liquor they have confiscated and it is 9 am. Looks like TSA agents in Denmark drink for free.

Landed safe and sound in Stockholm at 9:30 local time. We successfully navigated a cab to our apartment and through our stuff inside. Anna then met up with us and took us around the city for a few hours to see the sites and pick up some essentials. It is indeed cold here, but nothing we can't handle. The sun did indeed set at about 3:22, but it is all part of the adventure. Getting all setup and trying to rally to meet Gustav and Oskar for a quick drink before an early bedtime. Long day of orientation and people meeting tomorrow. I posted just a couple pics of what the snow looks like, and of how dark it is at 5:00 here.
